I find that Safari printing is and always has been "broken" on two different
10.2.8 Macs I've tried (a G3 and G4). The printout is always MUCH bigger
than the viewed page, even if I preview as a PDF. If it looks like I'm viewing
12 pt font, it looks like it's printing 16 or 18 pt fonts (eyeball estimate,
not measured with a pica ruler). If I "make text smaller" several times, the
printed page looks better but then I can't even read the screen and that's a
pain in the ... font.

When I need to print a page, I have been using IE 5.2 but I just installed
Firefox and Camino and will be trying them instead.

I also note that Safari 1.0 on 10.2.8 does not properly display patent
images from <a rel="nofollow" style='text-decoration: none;' href="http://www.uspto.gov." target="_blank">www.uspto.gov.</a> They are tiny images at the bottom of
a huge page. IE displays them properly.

And I'll agree to liking various IE options not available in Safari: do not
print images (save ink AND time on slow printers), include URL as
footer/header, etc.

I reported both as bugs to Apple LONG ago, as yet to no avail.

Ummm, if you are still using Safari 1.0, then how would you know if
the problems have been corrected? The current vesion is 1.2.1.

Humm. I've never yet come across a Web site that won't serve pages
regardless of which browser I'm using(Netscape, IE, Camino, FireFox,
iCab, Opera, etc). What horribly incompetently designed Web site(s)
are you having such trouble with?

Eh? Sorry, I don't get your point.

which will only run on 10.3,
which will not run on older h/w that supports 10.2,
which forces me to use IE for those sites that don't know about

Now the correct answer, which we might not expect on *.mac ngs, is
Apple has returned a great body of the codebase for Safari:
you're welcome to add your own flourishes.

My HP Laserjets' built-in webadmin interfaces won't reveal themselves to
any Mac browser. :-(
"Macintosh OS is not supported to run this application."

Somebody shoot HP for me...

Neither IE nor Safari works under Panther with Citibank's Direct Access banking
service. (Didn't work under Jaguar, either.)

Hmmm. I have a LaserJet 1012 and the documentation makes no mention
of this whatsoever. Must be a different model of LaserJet, I guess.
Since OS X (since Jaguar) uses CUPS to manage printing, though, isn't
this a moot point? Or is there something I'm completely missing-
like you have to access this interface to be able to set up the
printer to be used?
